: If a person goes on Long Term Disability provided by Liberty Mutual while employed and continue to work second job which he/she can do from home, about 8 hours a week seasonally, can the LTD be denied or reduced by earned amount from the second job? Can a person get fired while on long term disability? Can a person be required by the insurance to apply for SSI and Medicare?

: Any useful links would be appreciated as well.

: Thanks!

1. The individual would be required to apply for SSI
as the carrier gets a reduction from the amount SSI
pays.
2. Medicare - The long term policy does not pay for
medical care, but medicare may help indiviudal with
health insurance costs.
3. The part-time - seasonal job - be very careful,
I would not recommend working it because the carrier
looks at transferable skills and if you can do
one job they will argue that you can do the job that
they insured you for. Secure benefits first, then
speak with an attorney.
4. I have found that you should speak with an attorney
any time when dealing with these carriers and let
your attorney provide medical records, speak with
you physician and provide nec. documents to get
benefits paid and con't to be paid. In the long
run it will be very worth dollars spend. Look
at UNUM's list of claiments - where litigation is
taking place. Your carrer is not above a denial.
