: : : : : recently we were in a minor car accident and through this whole claim process cgu has been AWFUL. the claim adjuster made a statement in the beginning we are at fault. after much explaining he finally get it! and apologized. how pathetic. probably they don't even employ people who are licensed. if you have cgu insurance, the best service is NOT to get yourself in an accident.
: : : : Perhaps a few more details regarding the accident?
: : : : As far as licensing, that varies by state; in my state, only independents such as myself and public adjusters need be licensed or meet continuing ed requirements. The carrier folks get a free pass. In other states the licensing is the same no matter what the employer.
: : : : I have worked in two states with absolutely no licensing requirements (at the time at least) - Illinois and Indiana!
: : :
: : : the accident happenned 3 months ago. the third party is refusing to report to her insurance. we got a notice in the mail from GCU (our insurer)that the premium will go up by 33%, effective immediately, with no explaination as to why the steep hike.
: : : we had to contact the adjuster ourself. his excuse was we going to have to wait until the other party report the accident, which can be up to one year. in the meantime, we are stuck with the premium hike while the case is still un resolve. CGU is refusing to lower the premium to pre-accident level.

: : Two comments--
: : 1. What happened in the accident? was it a rear-ender or more complicated than that?
: : 2. Report the accident to the other company yourself. I see claims all the time which were reported by the claimant, not the insured. Just because they don't want to report the accident doesn't mean you cannot. If you have a copy of the police report send it to their insurer with a letter making your claim.
: : 3. the premium bump is probably company policy; they are all different. USAA bumped my rates for a parking lot accident, but the bump didn't take effect until the next rating period.
: : 4. CGU just went through yet another huge re-organization and restructuring (standard for all carriers every 2-4 years, it seems). They consolidated numerous claims offices and I suspect they have serious problems with overworking people and low morale. Poor service is almost always the result of lousy management, which is unfortunately indemic to this industry and the claims business in general.
: Thanks for the tips. The accident was pretty simple. We exited a shopping mall parking lot. Our car was turning right exiting the parking lot to enter mainroad. Her car was turning left to enter the parking from the mainroad.
: CGU (our insurance) is citing we are at fault as we did not proceed with care. This is boloney. Once we checked both ways and the lane where we want to turn into, which is the nearest lane to the curb is clear, we proceeded.
: The damage to our car is on the front bumper on the driver side and her car is driver side door. How can CGU still insist we are at fault when they do not have the police statement from her. She has avoided all contacts from both adjusters and we even called her to get her frigging act together!
Hate to say it, Rach, but you probably are at fault from what you have said; both cars moving, both making turns, the other car already on the street. The points of impact on both cars are a minus on your side as well. At best, a 50-50 (equal fault) from what you have said.
That does not excuse CGu for not conducting a full investigation, including a statement from the other driver.
