: HELP! My claim has been denied, on several occassions, due to insufficient medical evidence, so says UNUM. They have contacted ALL my past doctors, and each one has supplied UNUM with my medical history. Yet, they still say my claim has been denied. Everytime UNUM receives info, they keep stalling and asking for more. My question, Is it time to get a lawyer involved? I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue since 1987.
: PS: Do they truly have a competent claims and medical staff?
: Thanks
I have Fibromyalgia, have had several doctors tell UNUM in writing that I am permanently disabled and cannot work. I also have had testimonials given to them by family and friends who have witnessed my decline in health. And, I went to one of their functinal capacity tests, and had the testers tell UNUM what they wanted to hear, word-for-word, with fraudlent data. I complained to two state departments of insurance and got no help there, and actually had made matters worse by involving them. I have even been approved for Social Security. UNUM ignored it all. Believe me and others who will tell you that UNUM has procedures designed to terminate cases with our diagnoses. They target us and terminate our claims as fast as they can. I have had my case closed, have been dragged through a year-long appeal (when appeals are supposed to be kept to a 5 or 6 month max. set time by law), and have just recently had my case permanently closed. I am now in the process of finding an attorney. Yes, get yourself an attorney if you are in the appeals process. You may get your policy paid, or you may have to sue. Don't let this get you down. Just take a short time off from worrying about what horrible people UNUM's employees are, that they would take the food out of the mouths of people who are defenseless and cannot care for themselves, and when you feel better, try to get the legal help you need.
