I have the same probelm with Unum Provident. I was injured in two auto accidents and due to orthopedic problems, unable to perform my occupation duties. I am also a diabetic on the insulin pump and now have heart problems. I have been approved for Social Security disability, yet Unum still denies my claim. Two months ago I went to IMEs requested by Unum and still have not heard anything. They keep saying the claim is in the hands of their medical department and it appears they will deny me again. I previously worked for an insurance company and Unum was the disability carrier which my former company has since dropped to due Unum's mistreatment of claims. My advice get an attorney as soon as possible.
FYU Unum just lost a decision in the 3rd US district court in reference to their ERSA and claim processing. Also on Datline NBC just had an expose' on Uum on 10/13/02.
If my claim is denied again, I will file suit in Federal court (not state court as ERSA is not covered by the state courts).
