We had a minor 6 - 8" of water backup because of Hurricane Irene. We called Costco Ameriprise Home Insurance company to report the claim. The desk claims adjuster of Ameriprise told us that they will send remediation/mitigation crew to our home to mitigate the damage and it was covered as per policy guidelines for hurricane declared area.
The crew came to do the cleanup as per company guidelines, sought our authorization without giving any estimate or any invoice.
Two months later the restoration company sent by Ameriprise sends us invoice of 35000 USD claiming that Ameriprise denied their invoice.
We have already suffered huge loss due to water backup and now this kind of scam and fraud by collusion of disaster recovery company and insurance company is another nuisance.
We have reported this matter to dept. of consumer affairs and banking in NJ, FEMA,State Police, FBI, and various consumer groups.
Ameriprise home insurance mislead its customers by sending disaster recovery crew without any prior estimates and invoices. The disaster crew cleverly asks to sign on authorization for with hidden clauses to dupe consumers.
