As a driver who has never cost an insurance company a dime in 40 years of driving and makes payments on time, I expect to be treated fairly and with consideration by an auto insurance company. Liberty Mutual treated me like they couldn't care less about my business. My story begins when I was looking for a new insurer, and they gave me a quote, which I accepted. A month after the policy became in effect they sent me a letter stating the policy was now amended to reflect an apparent unreported violation (overdue inspection) from the state where I lived previously. By unreported I mean they failed to find this when they canvassed my driving history. It carried no points in the state where I was living, so would not have affected my policy rate there. Unbeknownst to me in my new state, however, an overdue inspection constitutes an "equipment violation." Nevertheless, I feel a quote is a quote, and rejected their increase in the rate. In other job, it's their job to assess someone's driving record thoroughly before coming up with a quote. Indeed, on the phone with the sales representative, he checked my history right then and found no violations which would have affected my rate. Well, they were rigid bastards about the whole thing, refusing to consider my viewpoint, and even had the gall to tell me that if I cancelled I'd be liable for a penalty for premature cancellation! They finally "relented" and informed me they would wave the penalty if I cancelled. My numerous complaints took me eventually to their ridiculous Presidential Review Board, which was just some collection of higher level hacks, who just referred my complaint back to the lower level personnel. In other words, they did nothing to help me and treated me as insignificant. I decided to wait out the year and then dumped the policy. Never again with Liberty Mutual!!
