: I'm looking for any information from anyone else having a problem with their LTD. They paid the STD with no problem whatsoever. When it came time for the LTD, they suddenly decided I was well. There had been no change from the last month of my STD to the time I applied for LTD. I got denied but on the denial letter they sent, they said if I provide them with such and such I can appeal their decision. I provided them with it and 60 days later was denied again saying if I provide something else, I supplied them with it and was turned down again. This went on four times. This last letter didn't say about supplying anything else. My employer has gotten into it with them, my doctors have, all to no avail. It's time for an attorney but I would like any input into others problems, too. Thanks.

Teresa, hiring an attorney would be a good idea if you are unfamilar with insurance practice. The denial letters should state the specific policy provision that insurer is basing the denial. Look carefully at it. Ask for copies of your doctors "Physician Statements" if the doctor did not write in the limit and restrictions that you are totally disabled, or did not list the limits and restrictions they will denie. Has your doctor written them a letter ie: patient is totally disabled, please ask me questions concerning this patients disability and I will answer them. dr _--.
The doctors at UNUM only have the medical records and the proofs of loss and your own documents. If this is ERISA, employer purchased policy for employees, I think there may be only 60 days for you to act. All policy have statute of limitations 2 years BAD FAITH and 3 to 5 years state statute but policy of insurance may also dictate lawsuits but usually comply with state law. If you don't file within Statute of Limitations, you can not bring suit. Good Luck
