On June 6th, I called Geico's toll-free number and got a quote for car insurance. I decided to go ahead and take it, since it was the cheapest quote I've gotten from anybody.
While I was on the phone, the agent was able to look up my driving record on the mighty computer, saw that it was good, and then let me use my credit card to pay for it all. It took Geico about one minute to check my record and then get my money off of my credit card, so they were happy.
Next, the agent asked me if I have a fax machine. I do not. I have never needed a fax machine in my life and I don't want to go buy one just to get this one piece of paper. I told the agent just to mail it to me. I trust the US postal carriers to deliver the paper to me. I told the agent to make my policy effective by June 19th. By that time, I should have gotten the verification papers in the mail.
That was on June 6th. By June 19th, I still hadn't gotten anything in the mail. I called Geico, spoke with another agent, and asked her where my verification papers are. She put me on hold several times, asked for help from other 'agents', asked me if I have a fax machine (I still don't), and said she would re-send te papers. In the meantime, I don't want to pay for what I don't have, so I asked her to change the effective date by a week.
A week passed. Still nothing from Geico. I called them back, went through the same conversation as last time, except that it was with a new agent, and they said they would send it again.
Today is July 21st. I have been on the phone with Geico at least once a week, asking where my insurance verification papers are. Every time I call, I talk to a new person and I have to explain the whole story again. Every time I call, that new person asks me if I have a fax machine. Am I the only person in North America who doesn't have a fax machine? Why can't Geico just put the papers in an envelope, put a stamp on it, and drop it into a mail box for the U.S. post office to handle?
Actually, they have. Two weeks ago, I finally got a letter from Geico, asking me why I haven't signed and returned my insurance forms yet.
What can I do? I just call back and gripe and complain, but Geico does nothing except say "We'll send it to you again. Do you have a fax machine?"
I regret calling Geico in the first place. They have ZERO sense of customer service. Ever since they sucked that money out of my credit card, they have turned their backs on me.
What can I do? I wish I could get all of my money back and leave Geico for good. But what makes me think they would send a re-imbursement check to me, when they won't even send my verification papers to me?
Meanwhile, my truck has been sitting in my back yard for almost 3 months. I can't register the title in my name without proof of insurance. I can't legally drive it anywhere without proof of insurance. I paid for insurance almost 3 months ago, but I have no receipt, no proof, and no paperwork except the one form asking me whyI haven't signed anything yet.
Geico is happy - they scammed me and got free money out of the deal. They STOLE my money!
