I am currently a Horace Mann client but frantically looking for a new insurance company to handle my insurance. I switched my truck insurance after Horace Mann sent me a renewal bill that was more than $200 higher than the previous six months and now I got a mortgage bill for $250 more than I paid last year and it is because Horace Mann changed my insurance policy from a $50,000 HO-B policy to a $123,000 HO-A policy (which doesn't cover water leaks or breaks). The real kicker was my yearly insurance went from $972 to $2,221. NO JOKE! There reasoning was that the state of Texas allowed them to charge what ever they wanted to last year and that they sent inspectors out to appraise my house and my $48,835 house appraised for $123,000. They said that was the replacement cost. When I told them that I didn't want to carry replacement cost insurance they told me that it was state law. When I found out that it wasn't the law they told me that if I wanted to get my insurance lowered I would have to hire my own appraiser. I think I will just hire another insurance agency and let TDI take care of the over charges.
Warning be aware that an insurance agency can change your insurance policy not just the premium!
