I'm a few months shy of two years but I can share my own experiences w/you. By AFLAC's standards I would be considered a successful agent. I avg between $700 to $1000 per week & that's w/my putting in 25 to 35 hrs per week. After only 6 mos I was awarded AFLAC's Rookie of the Year award. This Oct I signed a new contract to be a District Sales Coordinator (mgr) which makes me responsible for recruiting & training new agents & thus, earn an overide on their production. And now I'm earning stock bonuses & renewal income is starting to kick in. Now about you... Understand that unless you have some direct connections to get you started you can plan on going hungry your first 1 to 2 months. As you know this is 100% commission so when you get that first big check, spend what you need & save the rest, because this is a roller coaster my friend. You have to sincerely commit no less than 40hrs per week prospecting for new business. 20/25 contacts per day = 5 appts per week = 1 close. I recommend face to face encounters (unless you rock on the phone). Is it worth it? I can honestly say that at this point in the game, yes. For me it's the challenge & the freedom. Does it get easier? I would again, say yes. You learn to deal w/the "rejection". You begin to get referrals from clients (no cold calling). Your success will be contigent on two things #1 You -- What are you made of? #2 Your District Sales Coordinator -- Hold he/she accountable. Get up & out of your house everyday, no later that 8AM & drag your DSC w/you for training. If you find your DSC becomes your competition -- lose 'em! They work for you, not the other way around. Recognize that like in any other business, there's a certain amount of "politics" going on. Learn to play the game without being played. And one last thing, if you want a "get rich quick" scheme you won't find it w/AFLAC. If you want a "get rich slow" scheme, hang in there it will happen. Good luck!
