: DONT EVER BUY DISABILITY INSURANCE EVER. EVEN IF YOUR COMPANY OFFERS IT TO YOU FREE, ITS A BIG SCAM. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING COVERED IN THEIR RULES. YOU MAY BE SERIOUSLY DISABLED, BUT IF YOU CAN OPEN YOUR EYES, AND NOD YOUR HEAD, THEN YOU CAN WORK AND YOU ARE CUT OFF IMMEDIATELY. STAY AWAY FROM THEM, THEY WILL SCAM YOU IN A NEW YORK MINUTE. START PUTTING MONEY AWAY IN CASE SOMETHING DOES HAPPEN TO YOU, THE ONLY THING YOU CAN TRUST IS YOURSELF. STAY AWAY!

Bob: There is a big difference between group and individual plans. The key is to kow how the policy defines disability. Which occupational class 5,4,3,2,or 1., Policy features, Elimination periods, and basically just know your policy.
I have seen that in most cases, the problem is that people don't know the limitations of their policies and no one is educating them on what is covered.
If you have a copy of your policy/certificate, give it a good read. One person may tell you no, but the policy/certificate may say otherwise.
One more thing if your employer offers any legal benefits, give your provider law firm a call.
Disability Insurance is very important to have. You just have to know when and under conditions the claims will be paid.
Good luck.
