Thank you everyone for the feedback. We did check out his policy, and could not find reference to anything that closely resembled a "war clause." The post I had read on the other message board made it sound quite clear that *all* life insurance policies contained such a clause. The poster even had an example policy on his site which he claimed contained a war clause. We looked at the example policy and couldn't find the clause making us think it must be disguished in some sort of way. That's one reason we became concerned.

I also decided to call his insurance agent this weekend and ask him the question. I guess that would have been the logical first step to take anyway, but I just paniced upon reading that post on the other message board. The agent assured me that the company does not have war clauses in any of their policies, and that practice was discontinued over 30 years ago. To quote him, "anyone who tells you that modern day life insurance policies contain a war clause needs to stop giving insurance advice."

Thanks again, our minds are at ease now!

: Hi, my son is in the U.S. Military serving in Iraq at the moment. He is a family man with a wife and 2 children. I read on another message board that almost all insurance policies have a "war clause" in them that says the company won't pay the death benefit if the insured is killed during a war. Can any agents verify if this is true or not? There seemed to be some people debating that this was true on the other message board, but the administrator deleted their postings and now refuses to discuss the topic further. What's strange is he is the one who made the statement that policies contain war caluses.

: This is a matter of great concern for me and my daughter in law. I would appreciate a response.

: Thank you!
