: Hi, my son is in the U.S. Military serving in Iraq at the moment. He is a family man with a wife and 2 children. I read on another message board that almost all insurance policies have a "war clause" in them that says the company won't pay the death benefit if the insured is killed during a war. Can any agents verify if this is true or not? There seemed to be some people debating that this was true on the other message board, but the administrator deleted their postings and now refuses to discuss the topic further. What's strange is he is the one who made the statement that policies contain war caluses.
: This is a matter of great concern for me and my daughter in law. I would appreciate a response.
: Thank you!

Sally, the orginal message posted to the board you are reading the back and forth on was surrounding ALL policies which the poster made quite clear when he posted his message about Primerica's policies as well as other insurance companies also.
I own a policy with a war clause in it myself although the same company no loger adds the clause to their policy.
As for your son in service, he has an automatic SGLI life insurance policy on his life. SGLI stands for "Serviceman's Government Life Insurance". He can either keep it as term life insurance or he can convert it to permanent life insurance.
My experience has been that many agents do not know a hoot about SGLI Life Insurance or War Clauses either. Depending upon when your son's life insurance was issued will establish if has a war clause in it or not. If you have the policy I would suggest you read it for the answer you are looking for.
The topic string was started by one of those people who did not have the experience and the knowledge surrounding ALL life insurance policies in force today and he is well known for cluttering up message boards even this one at one time.
