[100 Insurers Message Board] [FAQ]

Posted by Carol on October 23, 2003 at 06:22:32:

several months ago I broke both legs which resulted so far in one complete knee replacement..I have osteoarthritis...my employer has already fired me..Unum has paid disability since May until now...they want me to file for SSI...problem is I don't have enough credits to collect (was off work for a few years in the mid-nineties). I don't know how to handle this exactly..my contension is I had arthritis when they took me on as a client (thru my employer) they haven't ever turned down the premium because they might have to pay-up someday and the knee surgery is a result of complications of an accident when I was employed and covered by their insurance. My doctor is backing me 100% but it doesn't seem to matter. Any advice how to handle these people..do I need a lawyer???
