: There is a relatively new coverage you can purchase called uninsured motorist property damage coverage. That would cover damage to your car (whether you carry collision coverage or not) caused by an at-fault uninsured motorist. Otherwise your colllision coverage is all you would have available, regardless of fault and subject to your deductible.
: The only way you will receive your deductible back would be if you had the above coverage or the insurance company is able to recover from the uninsured driver. Just because he didn't have insurance does not mean they will not go after him

This could be so assuming the coverage is availbale by your auto carrier at an additional premium charge.
My experience has been that people involved accidents with "un" or "under" insured motorist in "no fault States file a claim in small claims court if the person without auto insurance is not willing to reimburse them for the deductible.
Either way can fully compensate a motorist for an accident the motorist was not at fault at. :)
Being that persons driving autos intentially without auto coverage are usually indifferent to other people's property, it is not a bad idea to purchase the new policy that you have described if the premium is within reason.
