Keith,

Please. That is exactly what I said to Ken. There is no hype in my statement. I am telling this woman, in seemingly very unstable health, not to make any drastic changes in her lifestyle based on some anectodal musings by an ex-insurance salesman. Yet again you are implying I am attacking the Atkins diet. I am not. I am not. I am not. How many times do you have to hear that?

"The lady needs to consult a physician, no doubt".

Yes. Thank you. I have said that. You have said that. Ken is the only one who tells this lady to start this new diet, without a warning to consult a physician. It is irresponsible to do so, because neither he, nor you, nor I can make an adequate recommendation based on her conditions.

This woman is obese, has a family history of diabetes....it is a cautious assumption to make that she may have diabetes. Maybe she does, maybe she doesn't. Isn't it SAFER to assume she does? Isn't it SAFER to tell this woman who has probably self-diagnosed herself with diet pills in the past, to be under the watchful eye of a physician before trying something like this?

Like Steve C said, maybe jogging, or biking, or water aerobics might be a GREAT way to balance her health long-term. But should we go tell her to run a mile and see how she feels? Of course not...that would be irresponsible to have her go from resting to a 200+ heartrate. It is likewise irresponsible to tell her to try this diet without a plan to monitor things should they go wrong.

We are agreeing on things yet you can't seem to see that I'm not attacking the Atkins diet. Nor am I acting in a medical role. I am doing the opposite. I am telling this woman in frail and possibly dire health not to do anything drastic until she gets competent medical advice.
