Keith, I couldn't care less about what any "experts" on either side of the fence think. Here *is* what I care about -- Ken tells a woman who is DIABETIC, has difficulty breathing, chronic obesity, and myriad other problems, to go off and try a diet which will drastically alter her food intake and possibly cause a catastrophic change in blood glucose levels.
He does this supposedly with full awareness that this lady has quite obviously self-medicated herself with "diet pills" in the past, as well as trying other diets. Knowing full well that no self-respecting physician would prescribe "diet pills" to a chronically obese patient, is is NOT clear that she would automatically seek competent medical advice before proceeding, as you imply.
If her physician(s) OK the Atkins diet, then GREAT, and I hope she gets wonderful results. But is is absolutely irresponsible to give her the advice that Ken did, had he read her situation and considered the possible results.
Your reactions have been quite surprising. Twice now you have implied that my attack was on the Atkins diet itself, when it most definitely is not. I expect Ken to lash out and ratte his saber toward invisible specters, demons, and goblins. I did not expect that from you. Take a deep breath and consider this lady's situation.
