Your expert is wrong.
I have had none of those symptoms. My eyes are still white, not sunken, I have lower LDL cholesterol, no acne, no gout (???) - I run 3 miles/day at age 38, with a left knee which has had arthroscopic surgery for cartilege repair as well as ACL replacement.
Your "expert" provided no proof at that site, only anecdotal evidence. Read the actual studies done by medical professionals. I am living anectdotal evidence that your "expert" is just wrong.
: Message board owner,
: Ken is confused. I am not who he says I am.
: At the same time, he doesn't understand that somebody with chronic health problems, including those with morbid obesity who are candidates for gastric bypass surgery, need to be extremely careful. They can not simply "try" the Atkins diet without serious consideration for their cardiopulmonary health and the health of their liver and kidneys. A list of dangers, from:
:
: includes the following:
:
: If someone were to be consistent with the Atkins diet, they may run into the following problems: bad breath, gout (painful inflammation of the joints), high cholesterol (LDL = bad), kidney damage, weakness, bad (acne) or dry skin, thinning hair, increased risk of having a heart attack, yellowish instead of white eye balls, set back or sunken eye balls, muscle loss, frequent urination, vitamin and mineral loss, health related problems due to improper nutrition balance, and attitude or mood changes due to bad nutrition.
:
: Also,
: http://www.health101.org/art_Atkins_diet.htm
: includes grave warnings about doubling the risk of colon cancer and other cancers, and massive kidney failure.
:
: Ken is making it sound as though this would be a simple change not requiring medical consultation. IT IS NOT.
: This is a potentially severe situation and you must not allow medically innappropriate and irresponsible advice to remain on this message board.
